Groundbreaking at Britannia Leisure Centre site
The Britannia Leisure Centre element of the project has its groundbreaking ceremony earlier this month, which was attended by the mayor and deputy mayor of Hackney Council, plus project stakeholders and some of the existing leisure centre users from the New Ages Games Group, a sport and physical activity group for people over 50.
A section of concrete base for the new building was signed by all attendees to commemorate the event; this will be incorporated into the new building on completion.
The mayor, Philip Glanville, tweeted about the event.
A sneak peak with Deputy Mayor @feryaldemirci of the new Britannia Leisure Centre construction site. Hard to believe that in less than two years time this will be one of London’s best leisure centres with three pools & active water play.#HackneyisBuilding pic.twitter.com/QZvK1II6z4
